Awareness leads to change. Change happens at your own pace.
BetterSelf is an Australian fintech building a financial wellness app for people managing gambling habits. No judgement. No shame. No selling your data. Just an honest, private place to see where your money is going — and a few practical tools to slow it down when you want to.
Why we built this
The idea didn't come from a strategy document. It came from watching the same pattern play out, over and over, in people I care about — the slow leak of money into pokies, sports betting and online casinos, and the absence of anything in Australia that combined real bank data with limits and a calm voice on the other end.
There are gambling-block apps. There are budgeting apps. There are crisis lines. But until BetterSelf, there was nothing that brought open banking transaction tracking, gambling-specific limits and an always-on, compassionate AI coach together in one place. The gap was glaring — and the response from people I'd spoken to about it was a uniform "I would actually use that."
So we're building it. Carefully. Slowly. With privacy as the first decision, not the last.
What we believe
Privacy first
Read-only banking. AES-256 encryption. We will never sell your data. Disconnect or delete any time, no questions.
No judgement
You're not a problem to be solved. You're an adult making decisions, and we're here to give you better visibility — not a lecture.
Real change
Awareness is the lever. Limits help. The 48-hour cool-off matters. Crisis support is always one tap away — and free.
The technology behind it
